Apo Agua ramps up construction for bulk water project in Davao, requires 3,000 more workers
July 21, 2020
In line with its commitment to fast track the delivery of safe and sustainable water to Davaoeños, Apo Agua Infrastructura, Inc. (Apo Agua) is ramping up construction works for the Davao City Bulk Water Supply Project (DCBWSP) of the Davao City Water District (DCWD) and is targeting to hire over 3,000 additional workers by November this year. To date, Apo Agua has signed in about 1,500 workers for DCBWSP, bringing the total target manpower requirement to 4,500.
Apo Agua, an Aboitiz infrastructure unit, is a joint venture company between Aboitiz InfraCapital, Inc. and J.V. Angeles Construction Corporation (JVACC).
“We are ramping up our construction activities while implementing the appropriate health protocols in our offices and project sites per government guidelines. As we confront the challenges brought by this pandemic, we are set on delivering this project by 2021 while keeping our people’s health and safety a priority.”Shake A. Tuason, Apo Agua Operations Head
In compliance with the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in Davao City, construction for the project was put on hold in April. Apo Agua quickly shifted gears and focused on work programs that can be done through a work-from-home set-up.
Construction activities resumed in May following the issuance of the Omnibus Guidelines on the Implementation of the Community Quarantine in the Philippines, which allows construction works for water service projects to continue.
Tuason disclosed the additional manpower would help expedite the completion of Part A of the DCBWSP being handled by Apo Agua, which involves the construction of raw water facilities, hydroelectric power plant, water treatment plant, treated water pipelines, and facilities for various off-take points in the city.
“We are glad to assist our fellow Davaoeños during this challenging time by helping provide a much-needed source of livelihood.”Tuason shared.
Tuason said the company is on the lookout for skilled laborers including carpenters, masons, steel men, rebar fitters, pipefitters, machine and equipment operators, signalmen, watchmen, and utility personnel. Interested applicants may contact the company’s Engineering, Procurement, and Construction contractor, JVACC, through firstname.lastname@example.org or may call (082) 285-5400. Alternatively, applicants may access Apo Agua’s website at apoagua.com/hiring for a full list of the job opportunities and JVACC contact channels.
Apo Agua entered into a bulk water supply agreement with DCWD in 2015 to shift the city’s dependence on groundwater wells to the more sustainably-sourced surface water from the Tamugan River. Once operational, the DCBWSP will provide over 300 million liters of safe water per day to more than one million Davaoeños.
